The opportunity we have available
Organised within the Chief Operating Officer Group within the department, Information Technology (IT) Division’s purpose is to connect people and technology, empowering the department to excel.
IT Division is responsible for the consolidated provision and support of stable and secure IT Systems, applications and services to all department users across all States and Territories, including our Indian Ocean Territories and Norfolk Island, as well as supporting seven Ministerial offices, six Groups and coordination with portfolio entities.
The division provides the digital collaboration and communications tools necessary to connect a geographically dispersed workforce and to optimise hybrid working arrangements. We manage industry and public facing digital systems, deliver desktop services to over 2,200 staff, support over 30 office locations across Australia and oversee the department’s cyber security capability.
We are seeking highly motivated innovative and driven people to join our team to fill the roles as a Business Application Developer / Platform Manager. Successful candidates will be senior members of a small team managing maintenance, development, sustainment and support of a wide range of business applications and platforms.
What will you do?
You will work closely with other teams within the Department to deliver technological advice and solutions covering the entire portfolio of corporate applications to deliver high quality IT services for the Department.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical leadership and advice to colleagues and Senior Executive

Manage demand and prioritise workloads in consultation with the Director of ICT Operations

Work closely with the department’s IT Security team to ensure that the department is not exposed to unacceptable IT security risk

Focus on continuous improvement for the department’s IT systems, procedures and practises
In this role you will be supported to further develop your skills and help shape the roadmap for application development, delivery and support.
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the Executive Level 1 Work level standards.
We are looking for self-motivated, experienced IT professionals with extensive knowledge and experience across a wide range of enterprise IT systems and technology. Ideal candidates will be technical leaders that can work autonomously managing bespoke applications within an enterprise environment, passionate about contemporary technology and working with end users to support operational applications.
Successful candidates will also be solutions focused, proactive, flexible and agile. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the ability to:
- Develop complex business applications in some or all of .Net, React JS, API, Dynamics 365, C#
- Deploy applications to Server and Cloud based environments (Windows Server, Azure, Linux)
- Troubleshoot and supporting enterprise applications
- Manage code and projects in Azure DevOps, including development of build and release pipelines
- Provide high quality and timely strategic advice and assist with problem solving and issue management for internal and external stakeholders in relation to complex business challenges
- Oversee and prepare a range of written material including business cases, agency briefs and corporate documentation
- Undertake complex analysis, interpret ambiguous or incomplete information and apply sound judgement factoring in risks and context when forming conclusions on a course of action
Tertiary qualifications in an IT discipline, relevant industry certifications or demonstrated industry experience will be highly regarded.

Eligibility requirements
